The „One World Promoter for the Higher Education Sector“ is part of One World Promoter's Programme, in which more than 175 people promote One World issues throughout Germany. In 2013 finep has taken on the responsibility of being a One World Promoter for universities in Baden-Württemberg, the first in Germany within the higher education sector. Since January 2023, Miriam Rommel is in charge of this position.

Activities

The current activities of the One World Promoter for the Higher Education Sector can be divided into three main areas:

1. Networking on higher education issues related to development policy in Baden-Württemberg, including:

• Contact person for various topics concerning the intersection of global sustainability and higher education policy
• Participation in the University Network for Global Partnerships Baden-Württemberg and in the SDG University Day
• Exchange with other (university) networks on global sustainability and creation of communication channels between these networks

2. Strengthening the exchange between the organised civil society and sustainably engaged university stakeholders, including:

• Organisation of exchange opportunities between both groups of stakeholders
• Development of cooperation formats to link the (practical) knowledge of civil society organisations and scientific findings of universities in a meaningful way for global sustainable development.

3. Development and promotion of educational material especially for universities, including:  

• Creation of a workshop format with a focus on global justice, water and climate justice and its implementation in higher education contexts
• Creation of a booklet on the globally sustainable higher education landscape in Baden-Württemberg, which explores the question of how "transformation" can be shaped at universities

finep (forum for international development + planning)

finep is a non-profit project and advisory organisation in the field of sustainable development based in Esslingen. Its work focuses on local development policy work and environmental education, as well as consulting, facilitation, and the acquisition of third-party funding for non-profit organisations. In the field of development education, finep explores innovative methods such as "casual learning", thereby reaching new target groups. It brings together different stakeholders and designs educational strategies to support people in their everyday engagement for a globally sustainable and equitable development.

Promoters’ Programmes in Baden-Württemberg

In Baden-Württemberg, there are more than twenty One World and Intercultural Promoters who are employed by various development organisations and initiatives. They are experts who use their knowledge and skills for social change and globally sustainable development. The DEAB (Dachverband Entwicklungspolitik Baden-Württemberg e.V.) coordinates the programmes, accompanies, and supports the responsible organisations and their promoters. The One World Promoter Programme in Baden-Württemberg is funded by Engagement Global on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and by the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg.
